COMPLETE EYE EVALUATION

Dr. Ranz and his staff work together using state-of-the-art equipment to ensure you receive a thorough evaluation of your eyes.  This examination may take as long as two hours to complete.  If a dilated exam is needed, it will take 20 to 40 minutes for the pupil dilating drops to take effect.   For several hours following dilation, there will be blurring of vision and sensitivity to light.  Therefore, it is recommended that you arrange for someone to drive you home after your eye exam, and plan to wear sunglasses until the effects of the drops wear off.

A complete eye exam includes:

  • Patient history

  • Vision testing

  • Refraction for glasses or contacts

  • Glaucoma testing

  • Cataract detection

  • Eye muscle action evaluation

  • External examination of eyes and eyelids

  • Examination of the retina and optic nerves

APPOINTMENTS & OFFICE PROCEDURES

Office visits are by appointment only which can be scheduled by calling 896-2551 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.   We are a provider for Medicare and accept assignment on Medicare claims.   Some insurance companies require prior authorization and many require a referral from your primary care provider. It is the patients’ responsibility to obtain the necessary referral before their appointment with Dr. Ranz.  If you have questions about what your insurance requires, or what services you may expect your insurance to cover, please feel free to discuss this with our office personnel.   They will be happy to help if they are familiar with your insurance plan.  For patients not covered by insurance, payment will be expected at time of service unless prior arrangements have been made.

Certain situations may require a need for a second opinion.  Please feel free to discuss this with Dr. Ranz.  He will be happy to arrange a consultation or referral to another specialist.

An eye emergency is any sudden blurring or loss of vision, an injury to the eye, a foreign body in the eye, or an extremely red and painful eye.   If you have an emergency, call our office at any time.  Dr. Ranz gives emergencies priority treatment.    If the office is closed, our answering service will either contact Dr. Ranz or refer you to the doctor taking emergency call.

WHAT IS AN EYE M.D.? (The Practice of Ophthalmology)

Ophthalmologists, or Eye M.D.'s, are medical doctors fully trained in the diagnosis and treatment of all eye diseases. This training includes the use of therapeutic drugs, lasers, and surgery. Ophthalmologists complete a four-year residency after medical school which includes training in cataract and other eye surgeries. Optometrists are often confused with ophthalmologists.

For care of eyes and treatment of eye disease,
an Eye M.D. is the most highly trained and skilled health care provider a patient can choose.

Stones River Eye Center offers advanced methods to preserve, restore, and improve your vision through:

  • comprehensive examinations for glaucoma, cataracts, and eye muscle action

  • small incision "no stitch" microsurgery for cataracts

  • laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetic, and retinal eye diseases

  • emergency care for eye injury or illness

  • keratorefractive surgery for correction of nearsightedness and astigmatism

OPTICAL DISPENSARY

Optical Dispensary

With the opening of our new facility in January 2001, came the addition of an optical dispensary to Stones River Eye Center.  We offer a wide variety of frames to suit every taste and budget.  These include Tura, Nishiki, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Vanni, Escada, Norma Kamali, Bebe, Nina Ricci, and a couple of names new to the Middle Tennessee area: Lafont, and OGA.  Our licensed optician, B.J. Holland, will help in the selection of a flattering and comfortable frame, and lenses to give you your best corrected vision.  She is also happy to make adjustments to your current glasses or simply to provide you with information about the different optical products available.

Our Optical Dispensary was created with our patient’s convenience in mind.  Following your eye exam, we wanted to make it possible for you to order your glasses, if you so desire, without having to spend time traveling to another location.  Dr. Ranz offers his personal guarantee of 100% satisfaction, or your money back.
